Two Katy students honored at White House

The Science Olympiad promotes science, technology, engineering and mathematics education (STEM) and hosts competitions at the regional, state and national levels. Sweeney started the Science Olympiad in 7th grade and wants to go into biomedical engineering because it combines many of the fields she is interested in and brings science "down into the real world." The competition consisted of 23 different events covering a wide range of sciences, from biology and chemistry to engineering. Sweeney and Yu joined students nationwide at the fifth annual science fair, where students stood at more than 30 exhibits explaining their findings from experiments or devices in fields including health care, architecture, computer science and energy.
