Report: Megyn Kelly out at NBC, set for $69 million fight — and could head back to Fox News
Megyn Kelly reportedly will “not ever” come back to NBC after making controversial blackface remarks during her Tuesday show, according to a new report in the Daily Mail.
The report also added that Kelly is set to fight for the rest of her contract — about $69 million — and is in talks to return to her old stomping grounds at Fox News.
The Daily Mail cited multiple sources with knowledge of the situation who noted that Kelly is out for good.
“Megyn Kelly is done,” one source — named as an NBC executive — said. “She is not ever coming back. We are just working out timing of the announcement, but mark my word — she is gone and will never be seen on NBC live again.”
Kelly has been under fire for several days after a controversial segment on Tuesday’s show in which she said she didn’t understand why a white person couldn’t darken their skin tone to go as Diana Ross on Halloween, and that it was “OK” for white people to wear blackface on Halloween when she was a young girl.
Kelly issued her first apology to her NBC colleagues on Tuesday night in an email in which she explained that the incident was a teachable moment. By Wednesday morning, NBC co-hosts Al Roker and Craig Melvin were criticizing Kelly for her remarks, noting that she owes an apology to people of color at large.
During Wednesday’s airing of her show, Kelly issued a lengthy and emotional apology to her audience and those tuned in from around the country.
On Wednesday night, a new report from The Hollywood Reporter emerged, claiming that Kelly had lawyered up for what some believed to be for a fight with the network. The report also added that Kelly had separated from her talent agency.
What about her contract?
The source also told the Daily Mail that Kelly would likely walk away with the rest of her contract.
“Here’s the worst part – her deal is a non-break deal – so she walks away with all that money,” the source explained. “It’s disgusting and heads should roll here because of it.”
The report also noted that Kelly was in talks to possibly return to Fox, where she had her hit show, “The Kelly File.”
“A network news insider tells DailyMail.com that there are tentative conversations underway about Kelly returning to Fox News, whose viewers despise what they perceive as ‘political correctness’ and would likely welcome her back with open arms,” a portion of the report read.
A spokesperson for NBC declined to comment on the outlet’s reporting.
