Kanye West’s Oversized Backpack Sets Off Hunt for Its Designers

Another day, another Kanye West gift to the annals of style. The rapper was photographed recently wearing Heron Preston NASA sweatpants and the as-yet-unreleased YEEZY Boost 350 V2 “Static” kicks. But the highlight of the ’fit was undoubtedly West’s hilariously oversized single-strap backpack worn as a side bag-meets-chest rig.

The backpack was manufactured under license by New York bag brand Yak Pak and West is so taken by the piece, he even tweeted about it on Friday to track down more details about its origins.

“I’m posting this to find who designed this bag. I love the whole vibe of this piece,” West wrote. “Been trying to reach Joe Hunter and Adam Thorpe.”

If those names don’t ring a bell, Hunter and Thorpe were the designers behind cult British label, Vexed Generation. According to Dazed, the socially conscious brand, launched in 1995 before folding in the ’00s, was once referred to by Calvin Klein as London’s answer to Helmut Lang.

Now Vexed Generation seems set to make a comeback for FW18. All of which begs the question: Is Kanye West doing a little guerrilla marketing on behalf of Hunter and Thorpe?

Either way, if you can’t wait to find out and are in the market for something similar, here’s a selection of chest rigs to cop right now.
