The 2018 VMAs just wrapped, and a lot went down. Neither frontrunner — Beyoncé and JAY-Z’s “Apeshit,” Childish Gambino’s “This Is America” — won Video of the Year, losing out to Camila Cabello’s telenovela-inspired “Havana.” Elsewhere, Post Malone hooked up with veteran rockers Aerosmith, Travis Scott performed an insane Astroworld medley, and the internet cooked up a bunch of memes.

On the ’fit front, attendees’ looks ran the gamut. From Travis Scott keeping it casual and DJ Khaled doing it for the family all the way to Dej Loaf bringing a certified look to her first VMAs, the outfits certainly grabbed the eye. You can see the full list of actual award winners here, but in the meantime, here’s Highsnobiety‘s rundown of the best, worst, and most WTF ’fits at the 2018 VMAs.

Wearing Supreme on the red carpet can look entry-level, but Juice WRLD’s outfit shows some fashion knowledge, mixing a Supreme grail (the “Brooklyn” box logo tee, to be exact) with a vintage Yohji Yamamoto jacket from Fall/Winter 1991. The bright jacket is offset with matching pastel pants and sneakers.

The rapper was styled by Mike the Ruler and Sober Yung Walter, who previously showed off his high-low mixing in our Self Styled series.

While Travis Scott’s outfit is a lot less formal than Kylie Jenner’s, La Flame looks like himself and proves a casual ’fit can work anywhere. He pairs his loose pants with socks, sandals, and his staple flannel shirt. Topping off the look is a Von Dutch trucker hat, shouting out the mid-’00s trend revival.

We’re getting some serious Tomb Raider vibes from Teyana Taylor’s outfit. The singer brought utilitarian style to the event, wearing a cropped sleeveless T-shirt with distressed detailing above cutout combat-style pants and color-blocked gum-soled sneakers.

Nicki Minaj’s album Queen might be second to Travis Scott’s Astroworld in sales this week, but the rapper’s ’fit was definitely one of the best at the VMAs. Minaj showed love to Virgil Abloh, wearing a fresh-off-the-FW18-runway OFF-WHITE womenswear look: a cream bodysuit paired with a sheer tulle overlay.

It’s hard to know where to begin with this look. The pants are too tight, the jacket is stiff, and if you’re going to wear a leather jacket, you really, really need to wear a top. This isn’t a Guns N’ Roses video, dude. The whole ’fit is made worse by the matching Louis Vuitton monogram on the jacket and boots. Just no.

Although he gets points for the smiley face suit he wore to perform, Post Malone’s burgundy pinstripe suit was definitely a miss, made a whole lot worse by the addition of a polka dot shirt.

Gucci Mane and wife Keyshia Ka’oir were undeniably sweet on the red carpet, but they weren’t among the evening’s best-dressed. While Ka’oir’s outfit is a little out there, the beige jumpsuit stops just short of veering into WTF territory. And while Gucci Mane looks smart, the pink and black stripes remind us a little too much of a candy cane or a barbershop singer.

There’s a lot packed into Dej Loaf’s outfit — we mean it literally looks like there’s a lot packed into it. The voluminous white jumpsuit featured a lot of frills, a sporty zip, and details that looked more 18th-century royal court than 21st-century red carpet. Of course, the look became a mini-meme.
