A surfer has been filmed successfully riding a massive wave in California on an inflatable mattress.
The talented man somehow manages to stay afloat on the blow-up bed as the water crashes down around him.
Massive waves have been thrilling surfers in Newport Beach, California, in recent days but if you don’t have a board, there’s nothing left to do but improvise.
And the performance on the popular Orange County beach was appreciated by witnesses too, with one beachgoer heard saying ‘oh my goodness’ as the mattress rides the crest of the wave.

‘The beach weather is warm and fantastic and the water is warm – but we do have dangerous surf right now,’ Brian O’Rourke, acting battalion chief for Newport Beach lifeguards, told the OCR last week.
The National Weather Service in the US issued a Beach Hazard Statement due to the strong rip currents and elevated surf as waves surged to as high as 10ft to 15ft in places along the west coast of America.
Lifeguards have not let swimmers go too far out.
‘It’s just that treacherous out there,’ O’Rourke added.
It seems this surfer may have to wait until things calm down again before taking the mattress out for a second spin.
