Donald Glover & Rashida Jones Drop Time’s Up Sexual Harassment PSA
The conversations around sexual harassment and assault have never been louder due in part to the strong women at the frontlines of #MeToo and Time’s Up. The Hollywood movement’s latest call-to-action is a PSA that illustrates sexual harassment in the workplace and how power dynamics come into play between colleagues. The animated short is directed by Rashida Jones who has been a member of the organization since it launched last October.
“There’s been a lot of discussion about whether that’s even fair to link someone pinching an ass or something off-color at work to an actual assault,” Jones told BuzzFeed. “I think a lot of people struggle with the connection, because they think it’s dramatic to connect the two. So the PSA is intended to explain that there are these nuanced dynamics that are happening when there’s a power imbalance.”
Jones tapped Donald Glover to narrate the cartoon which is specifically targeted at men and modeled after the viral video “Tea Consent” created by Blue Seat Studios in 2015. BuzzFeed broke down the format into four pieces: “touching people at work, making comments about a coworker’s appearance, dating at work, and witnessing other people’s bad behavior.”
