American street artist Mark Jenkins unveils his latest artwork in collaboration with Campaign Against Living Miserably (CALM) and sculptor Sandra Fernandez. The project, which ended April 1, was located at London Studios and sought to raise awareness for suicide prevention in the UK where 84 men commit suicide every week. Thus, the installation featured 84 figures perched at the edge of London’s ITV buildings, an alarming sight for anyone traveling through central London.
The charity says suicide is the single biggest killer of men under 45 in the UK. Each sculpture is based on a real man who died by suicide, with their individual stories chronicled on the Project 84 website.
Project 84 also launched an online petition in hopes of persuading Britain’s government to take action to improve suicide prevention and bereavement support. Currently the petition has around 180,000 signatures.
