It’s been two years since The Weeknd dropped his last album Starboy, and it seems like his next one might drop sooner than expected. The R&B crooner took to Instagram Tuesday afternoon to share a screenshot showing a conversation between he and his high school friend turned creative director La Mar Taylor, highlighting the message: “Should we drop Friday? I’m indifferent to be honest.”
As Complex points out, The Weeknd, aka Abel Tesfaye, has been cryptically revealing that his next album is almost finished. He’s been sharing updates from the studio for months now, recently posting video clips with captions indicating that his next project is being mastered.
Because the text conversation between Tesfaye and Taylor is quite open-ended, it’s very possible they could be referring to dropping a project other than his fourth studio album – maybe he’s got merch, a new song, or a music video on the way. But all his teasing has got us thinking he’s about to release his next full-length, which Travis Scott says is “scray,” lest we forget.
Abel new album is scray. It’s like when I first heard him for the first time. Fuckkkkkk !!!!!
