Miyamoto is the creator of Mario, while Melendandri is the owner of Illumination Entertainment and Universal Studios.
No further information is available about the movie, however, it seems to be in its very early stages as the agreement for Illumination Entertainment to produce the film has only just been struck. This means that any movie is likely a few years away from hitting the big screen, at least.
Illumination has previously worked on Despicable Me, Minions, and The Secret Life of Pets.
As always, stay tuned for more information.
