This is the UK’s biggest ever warship, coming in at 280 metres long and costing £3.1 billion.

The huge aircraft carrier, weighing 65,000 tonnes, will have an estimated half a century working life

Britain should be proud of the ‘national endeavour’ to create HMS Queen Elizabeth, the ship’s commanding officer has said.

The Queen, Princess Anne, the Prime Minister Theresa May and Defence Secretary Gavin Williamson, are set to witness the vessel being accepted into the Royal Navy.

Captain Jerry Kyd described the commissioning ceremony, being held at the ship’s home base in Portsmouth on Thursday, as a ‘major milestone’.
