The early diagnosis on Nick Fitzgerald's injury is a serious one, as coach Dan Mullen said after Mississippi State's loss to Ole Miss on Thursday that the star quarterback has a dislocated ankle.

Mullen said he had no further information after the junior standout suffered the injury in the opening quarter of the Egg Bowl.

Fitzgerald's ankle was rolled up on by a Rebels defender, with many players on the field recoiling in horror as they saw the aftermath of the collision. Fitzgerald was immediately put in an air cast and carted off the field, but returned to the sidelines in street clothes and crutches to watch the second half.

Fitzgerald is arguably one of the top quarterbacks in the SEC, having thrown for 1,770 yards and 15 touchdowns while also rushing for 968 yards and 14 scores this season.
