Stanford head coach David Shaw announced Thursday that K.J. Costello will start at quarterback against Washington State.

Cardinal starter Keller Chryst struggled against Oregon State last week, completing less than 50 percent of his passes and guiding the offense to only 15 points in a narrow victory. Stanford clearly missed star running back Bryce Love, who was sidelined for the contest with an injury.

Costello has played sparingly this year, but did make one start against Arizona State when Chryst was injured. The sophomore went 15-of-24 for 173 yards and a touchdown against the Sun Devils.

Stanford is 6-2 on the season and ranks 21st in the College Football Playoff rankings.
