Almost three months after announcing his decision to transfer from South Carolina, quarterback Brandon McIlwain has picked a new home.
A true freshman for the Gamecocks last season as well as a duel-sport athlete in both football and baseball, McIlwain has decided to make a name for himself on the west coast, as he announced he has committed to California.
"I'm going back to the Bay!" McIlwain said. "I'm excited to attend the University of California Berkeley this fall."
McIlwain looked poised for a starting opportunity at South Carolina last season, but lost playing time to Jake Bentley after a slow start to the season. Appearing in eight games, McIlwain passed for 600 yards and a pair of touchdowns while adding 127 yards and two touchdowns on the ground.
Due to NCAA transfer regulations, McIlwain will be forced to sit out next season and return in 2018 as a redshirt sophomore.
