Openings: KAWS – “Where The End Starts” @ Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth
Last week, the heavily anticipated major survey exhibition of the work of KAWS opened at the Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth, a followup to a show at the same institution in 2011 (covered). Curator Andrea Karnes and the Brooklyn-based artist carefully chose works that would give a complete look at his career starting from his time on the streets with his now famous bus stop interventions and culminating with works that led to his recent meteoric rise in the contemporary art world. A master at subverting pop culture and remixing iconic characters in his signature aesthetic, KAWS has garnered a rabid following worldwide from seasoned collectors to the youngest fans who anxiously await the unveiling of his latest paintings and sculptures created for galleries and museums to his select collaborative commercial designs, art products, and limited editions. The extensive exhibition will stay on view through January 22, and then travel to the Yuz Museum in Shanghai, where it will open again on March 10, 2017. Discuss KAWS here.
