He’s baaaack.

According to the NFL Network’s and NFL.com’s Tom Pelissero, linebacker Vontaze Burfict was “quietly reinstated from his suspension last month.”

Which is a hoot, because Burfict doesn’t do anything quietly.

Surely you recall the Raiders last year taking a chance on Burfict, who seemingly never saw a personal foul he didn’t like. And if you recall that, you surely recollect Burfict, in game 4, laying a helmet-to-helmet hit on Colts tight end Jack Doyle, a foul that earned Burfict a season-ending suspension.

The question now is, would the Raiders want him back? In the olden days, when Al Davis was the team’s judge, jury and moral compass, this would be a no-brainer. Davis would already have a locker for Burfict set up in the team’s locker room — right next to Colin Kaepernick.

It’s not so simple in real life. Or is it? General manager Mike Mayock and head coach Jon Gruden already have made that decision. They signed Burfict last year well aware of his history. According to USA Today, Burfict was suspended 13 times and fined $4.12 million during his time with the Bengals. He didn’t last four games for the Raiders. If that wasn’t a deal-breaker then, why would it be one now?

Then there’s the “he is mending his ways” come-on, which didn’t pass the smell test of former NFL linebacker Emmanuel Acho.
