OnePlus has started pushing out a new beta update for the OnePlus 6 and 6T, and it brings a new security patch and various fixes. This update is marked as 'Open Beta 5', and it's rolling out as we speak.

Do note that you need to be running beta software on your OnePlus 6 or 6T in order to get this update. The update will arrive to you OTA (over the air), and you will not lose any data while updating.

If you are running stable software, and would like to move to a beta channel, that is easily doable. Do note that you will lose all data when reverting the process, though. You can find all the necessary info on the company's website via the link in the first paragraph.

This update brings a February security patch to the OnePlus 6 & 6T

Having said that, let's see what exactly this update brings. The first thing worth noting is that the OnePlus 6 and 6T will get the Android security patch for February once you update.

On top of that, OnePlus fixed and removed the white bar below the keyboard. That issue was plaguing OnePlus 6 and 6T handsets in the previous update.

The company also fixed the issue with app crashes during installing and updating. Overall system stability has also been improved, while the company squashed a number of smaller bugs.

That's it as far as the 'System' category is concerned, but there are several other entries to talk about. This update brings optimizations to the one-handed mode in the Phone app. It also fixes the issue with the duplication of contacts.

Zen Mode v1.5.0 is also a part of this update. It improves OnePlus Account login for synchronization of badges and user's data.

All the other changes that you'll notice in the changelog are for India only. This update brings changes in the Network, Work-Life Balance and Message categories for Indian users. Click here if you'd like to know more.

Both of these handsets were announced back in 2018

The OnePlus 6 and 6T were both announced back in 2018. These are no longer the company's flagships, but they're still great performers. It's nice to see that the company is still pushing updates to the device, even beta ones.

That is expected, as these devices are not too old, but it's still commendable. It's easily possible that some of these changes will make it to the next stable version of OxygenOS.

This update seems to be fairly stable, as we did not see a major bug being mentioned by users, at least not at the moment of writing this article. It is still a beta update, though, so proceed with caution.
