Coinciding with the release date announcement for the Off-White™ x Nike Vapor Street, Virgil Abloh unveils a new collection with Nike, called “Athlete in Progress.” A nod to the unbreakable confidence of runners, the capsule, which consists of performance product and post-run apparel and footwear, draws from Nike’s rich heritage in track and field.
“I started talking with Nike about this women’s running project last summer and at the time, I was very much inspired by the aesthetic and style of track and field athletes. As a result, I invited some of Nike’s elite track and field champions to participate in my SS19 Off-White™ runway show as the natural forerunner to developing and showcasing the collection,” says Abloh.
Athletes Dina Asher-Smith, Vashti Cunningham, Cecilia Yeung, English Gardner, Katarina Johnson-Thompson, Nafi Thiam, Caterine Ibarguen, and Rénelle Lamote helped Abloh debut the collection during Off-White™’s SS19 runway show. The first drop from the collaboration, which included the Off-White™ x Nike Zoom Terra Kiger 5, was then headlined by 800-meter champion Caster Semenya. Now, World Champion 200-meter sprinter Dina Asher-Smith introduces the second delivery from Virgil’s “Athlete in Progress” project. The collection, led by the aforementioned Off-White™ x Nike Vapor Street, releases November 14.
