Kurt Cobain’s Guitar & Iconic MTV Unplugged Cardigan Are Going Up For Auction
Back in 2015, the olive green cardigan sold for $137,500. Now the legendary piece is being auctioned for a second time round, this time the pre-auction minimum bid is a whopping $200,000 and is expected to reach bids up to $300,000. Made of a blend of acrylic, mohair, and Lycra, and missing one button, the piece also features a burn hole and discoloration on the two front pockets. However, perhaps the most notable detail is that the cardigan is still unwashed.
Next to the cardigan, the frontman’s left-handed Fender Mustang will also be up for a two-day auction. The custom guitar, constructed in 1993, boasts a turquoise body and red mottled pickguard. The instrument was used by Cobain during Nirvana’s In Utero tour and was previously displayed in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. It comes with an accompanying letter by Courtney Love in which she noted the guitar was one of her late husband’s favorites. It’s expected to fetch between $300,000 and $500,000.
Vetements recently dropped a $1,150 version of Cobain’s iconic cardigan.
