Tyler Cameron is opening up like never before!

All eyes have been on the 26-year-old star ever since he appeared on Hannah Brown‘s season of The Bachelorette. The Florida native went from stealing America’s heart as Brown’s first runner-up to potential Bachelor candidate to Gigi Hadid‘s rumored boyfriend in what feels like the blink of an eye.

Ever since their first date back in July, the supermodel pair have enjoyed several high profile outings together and relatively avoided defining their relationship… until now, that is!

In a new interview with Entertainment Tonight, Cameron finally answered all of Bachelor Nation’s burning questions about his love life, why he won’t be sharing every intimate detail with the world going forward, why he didn’t become ABC‘s next rose-handler, and offered some solid advice for Peter Weber. Let’s dive in!

What’s Going On With Gigi Hadid?

Tyler told ET‘s Lauren Zima that despite any reports to the contrary, he and Gigi are “just friends” right now.

“We’re just friends. I mean…that’s just where we’re at. Our relationship doesn’t need to be public. She’s good people, she’s an amazing person and we’re just keeping it friendly.”

In regards to sharing more details about his personal life, he added:

“I’m at the point where I don’t really want to talk about my relationships. I’ve dated publicly, so, I’m trying to date privately and I’m not in love with anybody right now.”

Cameron continued to speak highly of his “pal” Hadid, noting:

“She’s an amazing person, we’ve had a great time together. We’ve hung out a few times, that’s all.”

Oh, just friends you say? Interesting. So, if these two are just platonic right now, why didn’t he pursue anything with Hannah?

About That Drink With Hannah Brown…

As we reported, the former pageant beauty queen famously asked Tyler out on a date after breaking off her engagement to Jed Wyatt on After The Final Rose. Brown and Cameron did enjoy a night together in Los Angeles, but just one day later, cameras spotted the one-time reality TV star leaving Gigi’s NYC apartment.

The former contractor reflected on his conversation with his ex on that fateful night, explaining:

“I told her that I was still going to date people. [When The Bachelorette was airing], I really didn’t go out and date nobody. I didn’t put myself out there at all, out of respect for her, and out of respect for the show. And so I was like, ‘I still want to go and put myself out there and see what’s right and what’s not right.’ And that’s all I really was trying to do.”

However, he admitted he did consider getting back together with Hannah at one point:

“There’s definitely emotion still there. She’s an incredible person, an incredible girl. When she said, ‘Get a drink,’ I was already figuring we were going to get a drink, one way or the other… it was good to have [that conversation].”

He continued:

“It’s not always easy [to do the right thing]. I make mistakes and there’s definitely things that I could handle better but I never meant to do anyone wrong. I was just trying to figure out what was best for me and where my heart was at. It’s hard to say now [what I would have done differently]. I don’t know, everything is fine.”

Tyler also told the outlet he still has a lot of respect for his ex and would “never shade” her, after being accused of doing so on social media earlier this month.

On Dating In The Public Eye

In the sit-down interview, Cameron admitted he’s learned a few lessons about managing his newfound fame. For starters, he didn’t expect to be photographed outside of Hannah’s apartment and then with Hadid shortly after.

“I mean, that’s just me not understanding the world that I was kind of thrown into. It’s definitely been an eye-opener, and you have to move differently now. That never came across my mind that was a thing. The [naivety] of me, I guess.”

He added:

“I miss the anonymity of being able to just blend in.”

Sorry to break it to you buddy, but this is the world we live in!

It sounds like the model may prefer his sense of privacy, but there’s just no way we’d let him attend the VMAs after-party as Gigi’s plus one, step out for dinner with his new bae and her BFF Serena Williams, and fly to the Netherlands to support the Hadid brood during a time of grieving and NOT talk about it.

Why He Didn’t Become ‘The Bachelor’

It seemed like most Bachelor Nation was surprised to hear producers pick pilot Peter Weber over fan-favorite Mike Johnson as the franchise’s next leading man. But, before fans were sold on Mike and before Hadid came into the picture, Tyler was definitely a top contender for the job, too.

According to Tyler, it was something he and producers “talked about.” So, why didn’t he take the gig?

“You shouldn’t go on the show if you have a girlfriend.”

Wait. Is this subtle shade at Wyatt for going on the show with a girlfriend back home? Or, is he referring to his own relationship status here? After telling us he and Gigi were just friends, no less?! He continued:

“My heart wasn’t 100 percent there, and that’s something you have to be fully invested in. I was on the other side as a contestant, which is a much easier role than being the lead of the show.”

Cameron explained that his dad’s health, which almost prevented him from appearing on the dating competition show the first time around, also played a factor.

“My dad was very sick and I was very nervous and scared. I sat on it, thought on it, and my heart wasn’t in it.”

Well, there you have it!

The model hunk did have a few encouraging words for his buddy Peter, though. He added:

“I think Peter’s going to be amazing. I’m excited to watch Peter. He’s just — he’s got so much joy in that smile, and he’s got that subtle swagger… he’s great. I think he will fall hard for somebody. He may fall hard for a couple people because we saw it with Hannah. It’s tough. It’s a very hard position to be in. I think he’s got a genuine heart. It’s going to hurt him to say goodbye to people, but he’s a class act. Look at his family. He comes from an amazing family.”
