Michael Shannon Will Play Jerry Buss in HBO's Lakers Series
Michael Shannon has a new television role lined up!
The 45-year-old The Shape of Water actor will portray the late businessman Dr. Jerry Buss in HBO’s upcoming drama series about the “professional and personal lives” of the Los Angeles Lakers in the 1980s, Variety reports.
Jerry was the majority owner of the Lakers, winning 10 league championships. His character “redefines American sports, celebrity, and wealth by transforming the Lakers into a dynasty but his house of cards threatens to collapse on him—and the people he loves most.”
The “Untitled Showtime Lakers Project” is based on Jeff Pearlman‘s book “Showtime: Magic, Kareem, Riley, and the Los Angeles Lakers Dynasty of the 1980s.”
Adam McKay will executive produce and direct the pilot.
