After much speculation, Captain Marvel‘s Lashana Lynch has apparently been tapped to play James Bond’s successor in the upcoming installment, Bond 25, Daily Mail reports. While Daniel Craig retains the role of Bond, it’s said that Lynch will take over the famous 007 codename.
The upcoming film, directed by True Detective’s Cary Joji Fukunaga, follows Bond as he returns from retirement on spymaster M’s request. According the report, “There is a pivotal scene at the start of the film where M says ‘Come in 007,’ and in walks Lashana who is black, beautiful and a woman.”
The first impressions of the film suggest the franchise is moving in a new but necessary direction. Idris Elba, who was also recommended for the role told Variety last year that “It could be a woman, could be a black woman … everybody would like to see something different with it.”
Bond 25 is slated to land in theaters nationwide April 2020.
