Editor’s Notes: Well-known for its detailed collaborations, adidas Consortium is now also focusing on a string of in-house releases. The line is celebrating one of adidas’ most innovative technologies for SS19, the Torsion system. Here the brand introduces a sneaker that not only commemorates adidas Torsion but also an era when tennis shoes broke free of their traditional mold.
The Torsion system was found on the Edberg Comp in 1990, offering enhanced support and stability to both the heel and forefoot. Prior to, the original version of the Edberg was the signature shoe of Swedish tennis star Stefan Edberg, launching a year after his first Grand Slam win at the Australian Open in 1985. The colorway of the Edberg made it truly stand out among other tennis sneakers at the time.
adidas Consortium’s new Torsion Edberg Comp is heavily ’90s-influenced, featuring hits of deep purple, pink, peach, and royal blue popping alongside a white leather upper. The Torsion system provides the wearer with flexible stability, while the EVA midsole offers unmatched cushioning each step of the way.
The adidas Consortium Torsion Edberg Comp is available beginning July 19.
