Donald Glover Dressed as a Lion to Talk About Beyoncé & More on ‘Kimmel’
The Lion King recently had its worldwide premiere in Los Angeles, and preliminary reactions have been overwhelmingly positive from those lucky enough to get an early glimpse. Ahead of the official release, Donald Glover appeared on Jimmy Kimmel Live in a lion onesie costume to share some of the highlights about being a part of the film, specifically the experience of working directly with Beyoncé.
Apparently, the artists did not record “Can You Feel the Love Tonight” together. Glover joked that he requested not to be in the same recording room because “I did not want to be looking into Beyoncé’s eyes while doing this.” However, it turns out that they only sang their parts separately due to a scheduling conflict as he was shooting Solo at the time. The best part was when Glover revealed that despite his star feature in The Lion King, his own son was even more impressed by Beyoncé’s involvement.
“I was like, ‘OK, you know what, I’m not gonna tell him — I’m just gonna play it super cool,’” he said. “My son doesn’t watch TV, doesn’t have commercials. We basically just show one movie once a week if he wants. Yesterday, out of nowhere, I was like, ‘Hey, you wanna go see The Lion King‘? Just to see if he might notice my voice or whatever. He was like, ‘Oh, sure. Beyoncé’s in it, right?’ I was like, ‘How did you know that? But also daddy’s in it. I’m in it too!’ I’m just saying Beyoncé has people who haven’t even television loving her. She’s incredible.”
During the interview, Glover also touched on the future of Atlanta and his Childish Gambino project. The Lion King is out in theaters nationwide on July 19. Until then, watch the delightful discussion in the video above.
