Editor’s Notes: While officially named “Amarillo/College Navy,” this Air Jordan 5 colorway clearly takes inspiration from University of Michigan team colors, and bears a strong resemblance to the famous Tokyo T23 colorway. Jordan Brand’s marketing material, meanwhile, claims the sneaker is “inspired by the classroom” and that it celebrates Jordan-sponsored colleges.

With Nike’s top US colleges getting hyper-exclusive player editions, this drop is a nice compromise, giving fans a college-inspired colorway as a general release, similar to the “UNC” Air Jordan 1s that have dropped throughout the years.

The Air Jordan 5 first dropped in 1990 and was said to be inspired by a US WW2 fighter plane, with designer Tinker Hatfield adding shark-tooth shapes to the midsole.
