Amber Rose Is Getting DRAGGED For Promoting Detox Tea For Pregnant Women!
Amber Rose has come under fire yet again, this time over… tea?!
On Tuesday, the 35-year-old, who is expecting her second child — her first with bae Alexander Edwards — showed off her glowing baby bump (and temporary full head of blonde hair) in a new Instagram pic.
She was also holding up packs of Flat Tummy Co.‘s Organic Pregnancy Tea.
What Rose probably thought would be just another influencer promo has turned into quite the mess, as people are PISSED at her for promoting the controversial product.
In the ad, Amber praises the tea for helping “us moms with those bloated nauseous, blah-feeling days.”
The TV personality assures her followers the products are “safe to take while pregnant and breastfeeding” and are specially designed to to help expectant mothers handle recurring pregnancy symptoms like nausea.
Read her caption (below):
“Okay listen up @flattummyco just launched an Organic Pregnancy Tea to help us moms with those bloated, nauseous, blah feeling days! It’s safe to take while pregnant and breastfeeding. This is not a detox tea – it’s specially designed to help reduce occasional nausea and support digestion during pregnancy – haters stop riding the bandwagon and think for yourselves.”
Wait a minute. Is Amber being for real here?
This isn’t first time we’ve heard of these “laxative teas” before. And we’re calling it that, because that’s exactly what they are!
Remember when social media cried foul after both Kim Kardashian West and Khloé Kardashian promoted detox teas, appetite suppressants, and other weight-loss products from that very same brand?
The controversy comes because all those products contain a laxative ingredient that could be potentially dangerous when consumed in large quantities.
Laxative abuse is common among eating disorder patients, hence the problem with selling it as part of a harmless, organic supplement.
We understand how bloating and nausea can definitely be a concern for expecting mothers. But there are plenty of other ways to deal with. If you don’t believe us, let’s ask the pros on this one.
According to AmericanPregnancy.org, doctors recommend trying natural remedies — like eating more food high in fiber and drinking more water — before resorting to laxatives:
“If none of these natural remedies seem to help, your doctor may suggest taking a mild laxative. One mild laxative, considered to be safe to take during pregnancy, is milk of magnesia. Your doctor may also recommend taking a bulk-producing agent like Metamucil. Lastly, your doctor may suggest a stool softener, which contains docusate, to reduce constipation.
If none of these products work, a stronger medicine might be considered. You should always consult your doctor before taking any stronger medication. In addition, make sure you do not overuse laxatives. This can cause diarrhea, leading to fluid loss, and make you more likely to reach for them in the future.”
You guys catch that part? We know Miz Rose has quite the influence online, but your doctor certainly has a better perspective than someone trying to sell you tea on social media.
As we told you, people were less than thrilled to see Amber hop on the Flat Tummy Co. train, and many urged her to embrace the natural ‘bloating’ in pregnancy
See some of the scathing responses on social media (below):
“Idk who needs to hear this but when you’re pregnant you shouldn’t be taking harmful medication or drinking “flat tummy” tea for bloating & nausea. Use your heads and don’t look at what Kim Kardashian and Amber Rose are getting paid millions to promote. You’re being exploited.”
“Imagine drinking something called flat tummy tea when you’re pregnant. Oh, lord…”
“Another shameless ad for “magic tea” perpetuating the need to have a flat tummy… Now aimed at pregnant women! Ily. You’re supposed to be a feminist. You have enough money. Seriously just stop.”
“A laxative tea for pregnant women? Girl you do not need the money that bad. This is just wrong.”
“Don’t promote this toxic crap.”
Like we said, people were pissed!
And considering Amber’s longtime personal stance as a feminist and advocate for women’s rights… we imagine she’ll have a strong answer for all this soon.
What do YOU guys think about the pregnancy tea? Tell us in the comments (below).
