Fans of The Boondocks can look forward to the animated series finally getting a reboot. Sony Pictures Animation president Kristine Belson announced the news today at the 2019 Annecy International Animated Film Festival, also mentioning Jackie Chan’s Wish Dragon, horror series Hungry Ghosts, comedy series Superbago, and two new Genndy Tartakovsky movies, Variety reports.

Reimagined for the modern era, Sony’s The Boondocks reboot is helmed by series creator Aaron McGruder. Based on the comic of the same name, the show aired on Adult Swim from 2005 to 2014. Per the announcement, the new version pits the Freeman family against local government tyrant Uncle Ruckus.

Rumors surrounding the return of The Boondocks have been circulating for some time. Back in March, the voice of Granddad, comedian John Witherspoon, revealed on The Joe Rogan Experience that the show is coming back. Prior to, Aaron McGruder addressed the state of America through a Boondocks comic strip, which wound up on social media.
