Grad Night walk-through

After the June 7 commencement for Los Gatos High School’s Class of 2019 on the campus’s front lawn, graduates will find out the theme for this year’s Grad Night party. Before the official reveal, community members are invited to walk through the event, set up in the high school’s small gym, from 4-8:30 p.m.—as long as they don’t give the theme away.

Grad Night is a Los Gatos tradition that began as a way to provide a fun, safe environment for seniors on the night of their graduation. Organizers say more than 90 percent of graduating seniors attend the all-night event, which is organized and staffed by their parents.

Sophomore parents are in charge of the community-walk through event, and junior parents clean up on the morning of June 8. In total, more than 1,000 parents volunteer to make this event happen, and they start working on the decorations months in advance.

The Grad Night party has been held at the high school for more than 30 years, with parents transforming the campus to reflect themes like Be Your Own Super Hero, Mardi Gras, Star Wars and “Viva Las Vegas.” Past events have included a casino, a salon, a climbing wall and karaoke. The event ends with music by a Los Gatos High School faculty band.

Maintenance day

The Los Gatos Library, at 100 Villa Ave., will be closed June 7 for building maintenance. It will reopen June 8 at 11 a.m. and resume its 54/7 routine (it’s open 54 hours a week).
