The parents of Azriel Clary are “ashamed” after watching their daughter passionately defend R. Kelly on national television.

As we reported, the 21-year-old appeared on CBS This Morning alongside Joycelyn Savage, the embattled singer’s other live-in girlfriend, where they both insisted they were in happy, consensual relationships with the Grammy winner.

Gayle King followed up the women’s joint interview by speaking to Savage’s parents, who maintained that the 52-year-old had brainwashed their daughter into being one of his “sex slaves” and told her they were only after his money.

On Wednesday, King sat down with Azriel’s parents and gave them a chance to respond to their daughter’s claims that they exploited her for monetary gain.

Speaking on the “monstrous” and “sick” situation his daughter is now in, Angelo Clary confessed:

“I take full responsibility. I feel like I failed my daughter because I should have saw different signs. I should have saw the change in my baby girl instead of the love that we instilled in her that she was showing us and putting on a charade. We can take responsibility but to the world, how much responsibility did R. Kelly take?”

King noted that Angelo personally called her after watching his daughter to apologize, saying that he was “ashamed” of what he saw.

Alice Clary went on to tell king that she heard her daughter tried to leave Kelly’s home twice and was brought back both times. She added that, in the beginning of her Azriel’s “professional” relationship with the singer, she also “had to prove [her] loyalty to him by any means necessary… she was lying and duping us and pulling the wool over our eyes from the beginning.”

Sharing the details of how their daughter came to live with Kelly for the first time since they participated in Lifetime’s Surviving R. Kelly docuseries, the Clarys revealed that Azriel had attempted suicide shortly before meeting the performer in 2015.

When she was 17, Azriel was invited to go on tour with the R&B star — something her parents were hesitant about, but reluctantly said yes to because teen allegedly threatened to kill herself had they refused.

Claiming that they were told there would be a chaperone on the tour, Angelo recalled:

“I didn’t trust [Kelly]. I trusted my daughter would be honest with us and this was strictly about her music.”

While speaking about the women who have come in and out of Kelly’s life, Alice told King:

“I’ve heard a suicide pact. I’ve heard all kinds of stuff.”

As fate would have it, Chicago Police received an anonymous phone call about a suicide pact going down at Kelly’s residence, just a day before the Clarys’ interview aired. As we reported, police investigated Kelly’s residence for a welfare check and determined that everyone was fine.

But Azriel’s parents are adamant that their daughter is far from safe — they say she’s trapped in a “monstrous” situation.
