After reports surfaced that the Chicago White Sox had an eight-year deal on the table for Manny Machado, a new report is suggesting the actual offer is a seven-year deal worth $175 million, according to Buster Olney of ESPN.
Instead of becoming one of the most lucrative free-agent contracts in baseball history, Machado is instead looking at a comparable deal to what first baseman Mark Teixeira got 10 years ago. Prior to the 2009 season, the New York Yankees signed Teixeira to an eight-year contract worth $180 million.
The Philadelphia Phillies were still believed to be involved as recently as this past weekend, while the Yankees have shown some interest in the four-time All-Star and two-time Gold Glove winner.
