European heavyweights seeking a bona fide goalscorer have been put on alert following claims from Mauro Icardi's agent that contract negotiations between the Argentinian striker and Inter are a "long way off."

"There are very important clubs that are interested in signing Mauro and we are very far from reaching an agreement (with Inter)," Icardi's agent and wife, Wanda Nara, told AS.

Icardi has led the club in scoring in each of the last four seasons, and with his current terms in Milan set to lapse in 2021, the 25-year-old's representatives are seeking a pay raise. According to Nara, they aren't willing to entertain Inter's offers thus far.

"The figures that are being talked about in Italy about his contract renewal are not accurate. So far, we have not received a satisfactory offer from Inter," Nara added. "It is not logical for Mauro to renew on the same salary that he receives now. We believe that Mauro is at a superior level."

While Nara's remarks may encourage an improved offer from Inter, they'll attract the gaze of Europe's biggest clubs, including two in Spain who fit the profile of La Liga juggernauts Real Madrid and Barcelona. "We have a very good relationship with the two biggest clubs in Spain who, are very interested in Mauro, as well as one in France and one in England."

Several sources have speculated about a move to Real Madrid for Icardi, with further reports suggesting that Inter are monitoring Juventus attacker Paulo Dybala as a potential replacement.
