Looking at the Earth from above puts a lot of things into perspective, including its massive mountains. What people have looked up at in wonder, and often died trying to summit, become subtle ridges across a vast landscape, or small bumps emerging from the flat surrounding land.

These photos, taken over the years from space shuttle missions and the International Space Station, underscore how some of Earth’s mightiest wonders seem tiny when viewed from space.
