Following its high-profile collaborations with Stone Island, Supreme has teamed up with another classic British terracewear brand for FW16 — Aquascutum.
Aquascutum was founded in Mayfair, London in 1851 and has a long and illustrious history in Britain. It was the first brand to develop the waterproof textile and trench coat, which was then worn by British military during the Crimean War and World Wars I and II.
However it was in 1976, when the brand introduced their iconic Club Check pattern, that the brand took off among young football casuals (young lads who liked to dress up to go to the football and have a fight with opposition fans.) The club check pattern was plastered all over scarfs and in the insides of jackets, both of which became popular among casuals looking for pieces that were smart, showy, and expensive.
Despite a tough rivalry with fellow British check-heavy brand Burberry, Aquascutum has soldiered on and remains popular today. Hence why Supreme has now partnered with the brand to drop a range which includes an assortment of jackets (including both the popular mac and harrington styles,) shirts, polo shirts, waistcoats and the iconic scarf.
