Ruth’s Chris had more at steak than it could have imagined.
The steakhouse franchise in Ann Arbor, Michigan, promised customers a meal discount equivalent to the University of Michigan’s margin of victory over Rutgers in a football game on Saturday. One percentage point would be added for every point on a meal Sunday through Thursday.
Michigan shellacked Rutgers, 78–0, which would have given steakhouse patrons 78 percent off their meal! Well done on such a rare feat, Wolverines.
But the restaurant later altered its Facebook promotion copy to cap the discount at 50 percent.
Some say they got a raw deal.
“,” one fan wrote on the restaurant’s Facebook page. “Lol, not enough balls to go 78% off huh?” wrote another.
The restaurant said the 50 percent limit was always in place. “Our apologies the discount cap at 50% was not in this initial post,” read a message on Facebook. “This amazing promotion was launched with a cap of ‘up to 50% off’ the food portion of the bill and we’ve updated this post to reflect that.”
Business after the lopsided victory was still apparently brisk.
