On Saturday evening, while the East Coasters were braving the storm surges from Hurricane Matthew and bracing themselves for the debate on Sunday, Los Angeles’s finest in the worlds of art, fashion, and philanthropy converged on the Hammer Museum for the 14th Garden in the Gala. The annual event has become a fixture on the social calendar and this year celebrated filmmaker Todd Haynes and musician and artist Laurie Anderson. As guests including Alessandra Ambrosio, cochairs Jodie Foster and Alexandra Hedison, Emma Roberts, and more glided into the party dressed in Bottega Veneta’s festive frocks—the Italian house was this year’s sponsor—everyone took note of the artful setting and lively chatter. After speeches from Karl Ove Knausgaard and Sarah Paulson and a performance from Rufus Wainwright, the evening went well into the night.
