Verlander criticized for ill-advised All Lives Matter tweet
Justin Verlander came under fire Sunday after including an #alllivesmatter hashtag in his tweet criticizing recent anthem protests during American sporting events.
Verlander's tweet came on the heels of Toronto's dramatic 7-6 walk-off win over the Rangers, which was broadcast on TBS. During the transition to the postgame show, the TBS studio crew was caught on camera singing O Canada, prompting the Tigers pitcher to take a shot at athletes who are protesting social injustice in the United States by not standing for the national anthem.
The reference to All Lives Matter, a phrase that has be used to undermine the Black Lives Matter movement, was not taken well by Twitter.
