Taylor Swift Helped Pay Off A Fan’s Student Loans Because Of Course
Taylor Swift has a habit of sending surprise gifts to her fans, and her latest recipient received a check to help pay off her student loans! Taylor apparently discovered fangirl Rebekah through stalking her Tumblr, and sent her a special “SwiftEx” delivery. The package of goodies included a handwritten card, a hand-painted watercolor piece, a Polaroid of Taylor working on the painting, and an old necklace of Taylor’s. As if all that weren’t enough, she included a nifty check for $1,989 (see what she did there?) to contribute toward Rebekah’s student loans, which I’m assuming she learned of in one of Rebekah’s tumblr posts.
After several emotional all-caps rants upon first receiving the package, including “I CABT STIP CRYOJG. I DONT EVEN KNOW WJAT TO SAY RIGHT NOW,” Rebekah typed up a sweet thank-you note:
I know I’ve said it so many times already but thank you, thank you, thank you, from the bottom of my heart. Never in a million years did I ever imagine this happening to me, I never imagined you even knowing who I was let alone you taking your time to paint me something and to write me a note. I am so honored and so thankful to call myself a fan, to have supported you all of these years because you are truly the most amazing, genuine, and selfless person. On Thursday when you liked all of those posts of mine I couldn’t contain my excitement and honestly, that was more than I could have ever dreamed of and then you do this…you send me the most thoughtful, meaningful and most amazing gifts I have ever gotten. And they mean even more coming from someone I have admired for so long. I’m so thankful to call you a friend and buddy. You have changed my life in the best way.
I can’t wait to see you on tour and thank you a 1,989 more times.
Awww. Maybe I should be more cynical about this, because album publicity and all that, but whatever. Let’s all just marvel over a celebrity stepping out from the sea of Hollywood hypocrites to do something nice. Sure, it’s also self-promotion, but it’s such clever (and kind!) self-promotion that she deserves at least a little credit for it. I mean, she basically makes her fans’ lives when she pulls this stuff. If people were tripping all over themselves to snatch up your secondhand accessories, you’d probs do the same.
