Update: Students broke into The Shoe (Ohio State’s stadium), tore down goalposts, set fire to couches and dumpsters, and generally had a good rambunctious time. To quote a redditor on /r/OSU, “victory sorta tasted like black pepper for awhile.”
There was a lot to celebrate last night in Columbus, Ohio after the Ohio State Buckeyes won the first College Football Playoff National Championship with a 42-20 win over the Oregon Ducks at AT&T Stadium. However after the game ended, things got ugly in Columbus, Ohio and officers reportedly used pepper spray and a paintball gun on fans who were going over the line.
The Columbus Dispatch reported last Monday night that there were no reports of injuries while a police spokesman said that 30-40 fires in trash cans and dumpsters had been reported. The fans obviously have every right to celebrate but there has to be a point where setting a fire or getting the party to a point where pepper spray is used is over the top. This embed is invalid" />
Many students even decided to celebrate on frozen Mirror Lake but it could have been a much worse celebrating where people got hurt. Ohio State fans have waited nearly a decade for another national championship and they definitely got their wish on Monday night and let out all that emotions in the streets of Columbus.
