MIT Students Hand-Build a Wooden Roller Coaster for Incoming Freshmen
Students at MIT revived an old campus tradition, hand-building a large wooden roller coaster on campus for incoming freshman (who also served as the main labor force for construction). Much to the chagrin of the engineers behind the project, early plans for a large loop had to be scrapped for safety reasons.
Unfortunately, we had to scrap the loop. One of the steps to getting the coaster approved by MIT and Cambridge was going through MIT’s Environment, Health and Safety department (EHS). Basically, EHS said No Upside-Down People. Period.
